Jurassic World: Rebirth Is The Best Film Since Jurassic World (2015) Spoiler Review

Jurassic World Rebirth takes it back to the island where it all started with mutant dangerous Dino’s on the loose.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What Worked Well

In Jurassic World Rebirth the action is back on the island and really focuses on the Dino’s. There are tons of Dino’s in this movie from all shapes and sizes.

As a Dino guy myself, I really enjoyed that it seems like no more than 10 minutes went by between a different Dino showing up. The movie had a clear and concise mission. The team had to get blood samples from three types of dinosaurs (air, water, land) and give the samples to the head of this corporation so they can make medicine that cures heart disease. That made the plot very easy to follow and allowed them to explore different areas and different types of Dino’s allowing for lots of diversity and interesting environments.

The family that was introduced in the movie was also a great idea because it added an element of thrill, diversity and wholesomeness. This family was just in a boating vacation near the equator when all of the sudden they venture into Dino territory and a mosasaurus attacks the boat! This puts the family in grave danger as their boat gets completely flipped over and they are treading water for a bit before climbing on top of the now flipped over boat and calling for help.

Luckily the mercenary and science crew led by Ali, Scar Jo, and Bailey come to the rescue just in the Knick of time. They take the family in and take them on their mission to the nearby Dino island so the family can go call for help once they arrive. On their way to the island, they get attacked by two spinosaurses and a mossasuraus leading the two groups to eventually get separated on the island.

The stakes get pretty high in this film with multiple people getting eaten by various Dino’s throughout the movie.

The acting from our main trio is pretty good with great chemistry between Scarlett’s character and Jonathan Bailey. Ali’s character has a great emotional hook that really captures the feels when he talks about the death of his son and when he tries to save the family and especially the little kid later on in the movie.

Lastly, the visuals of this movie were quite stunning. I feel like it was the most beautiful Jurassic film since Jurassic Park and really brought that sense of awe and wondering that the original movie had.

What Could Be Improved

While most of the movie was fantastic they are certainly some things that could be improved. I did think that Rupert Friend’s character as the main villain was very cringy. I know that he is a villain and is supposed to be kind of cringy but I wasn’t really here for it and I do wish that as the villain he had more depth as a character.

Also even though there was plenty of dinosaur variation, surprisingly the raptors were only in the movie for about five minutes or less. They showed up when the boyfriend, who was keeping watch at the time when the rest of the family was sleeping, went to go pee and two raptors showed up behind him as he was using the bathroom. He got saved by a Mustadon, which was the flying dinosaur/raptor hybrid that ate the one raptor and scared the other away. Traditional raptors are the stars along with the T-Rex of the Jurassic movies in my opinion and are very heavily featured with iconic scenes in every movie. The last Jurassic trilogy of course had Blue who was a protagonist and central part of all three Jurassic World movies and of course there is the iconic kitchen scene from Jurassic Park with the raptors chasing the kids so to leave raptors out almost entirely in this movie was a very strange choice.

Overall Thoughts

Other than thoughts two complaints, I really did think this movie was fantastic and my third favorite Jurassic movie of all time behind Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. I loved the amount of Dino’s and action in the movie and as I previously stated I loved the visual style and choices made here as well. I give this movie a 4/5 stars and would one thousand percent see it again. I saw the movie on a regular screen so I’d imagine seeing it in Dolby or IMAX would be ten times better.

Final Recommendation

I highly recommend you see this movie particularly in theaters as I think it really fits that summer blockbuster vibe. If you don’t want to go to a theater then I still think you should see it when it arrives later this fall on digital and Peacock.
