While many were focused on the possibility of Waterworld going away soon, which Universal has debunked, the real casualty may be the War of the Worlds sets. The War of the Worlds (WOTW) sets are some of the largest on Universal property and a major stop on the Studio Tour. Included in the sets is a real Boeing 747 airplane which is a cool fun fact.
New permits filed on August 29th may spell doom for the WOTW sets very soon.

The permit, described as Pyscho Pass Grading Project, suggests that a grading project will come to this area. Pyscho pass is the area in between The Bates Motel, The Pyscho House, and the WOTW sets.

The soonest this grading project could start would be in November after Halloween Horror Nights ends because this entire area is used for Terror Tram.
This grading project could possibly be for a new building labeled S22 which would incorporate a new building that would combine the Prop, Lighting, and Scenic departments under one roof.

The current departments are spread across the studio backlot. Costuming and props is in building 8166 near the new Barham soundstages and lighting is in building 4250 which is in the Lower Lot which is the more interesting one in this scenario.

This building is interested because it’s another relocation of a building in the long rumored Lower Lot expansion of the theme park. In the image below, everything in yellow would be up for grabs.

The mill is already being relocated. The soundstages have been replaced by new ones on the other side of the lot. This is a large area that could fit a few rides and even two lands. This is yet another puzzle piece in Universal Hollywood’s puzzle for a potential massive expansion in the future.
